Due to the water crisis that affected Richmond, RPS has made some changes to the school calendar. Wednesday, January 15th- Originally scheduled to be an early release day for students, this will now be a FULL instructional day. Tuesday, February 18th, originally a professional development day for teaches will now be a FULL instructional day for students. Additionally, the end of the first semester has been delayed to Friday, January 24th.

The L. Rita Jones Oratorical Contest will be held on Saturday, February 1st at River City Middle School. This competition will encourage and showcase our students' public speaking skills. Students who are interested in competing need to register by January 15th, 5:00 PM using the following link.

Barack Obama Elementary has its very own news team this school year. The Rising Star News comes out every day and features our news team of fourth and fifth graders. This is a fun way to keep our school informed and to give our team an introduction to journalism. All daily news reels can be viewed at this link.
RPS conducts an annual school application cycle to offer a variety of selective admissions schools, programs, and open enrollment options that align with the diverse needs and interests of students and families. This is especially important for fifth grade students as they make choices regarding middle school enrollment. Information can be found at this link.
