Literacy

The RPS Literacy department is developing the capacity of our students, teachers and the school community through the implementation of our Literacy Plan Initiative. We are committed to fostering growth in three primary focus areas: small group learning, data-driven instruction, and professional learning.

Data-driven Instruction

We are using data to drive instruction through grades K to 12, including: checklists and data trackers in elementary grades, monitoring progress and scaffolds in middle school and progress monitoring for reteaching opportunities at the high school level.

Professional Learning

We provide professional learning to build teacher knowledge about the curriculum with an emphasis on student learning targets, planning, small group instruction,  access to diverse texts and cultural responsiveness through texts.

Small Group Learning

We are increasing our coaches' capacity to scaffold instruction and refine the structures of small groups with regard to literacy instruction.
