An Update Regarding Barack Obama Elementary
Posted Date: 08/23/26 (09:00 AM)
Dear Obama Community,
I am writing with an update on our ongoing remediation efforts. Unfortunately, Saturday's test results came back with slightly elevated levels (see attached report). The good news is that we have made significant progress in several key areas. Most importantly, our remediation efforts uncovered what we believe is the primary source of the mold growth, which was a moist pipe hidden in a supply closet above ceiling tiles. We were able to thoroughly clean this impacted area, and the mold levels dropped significantly in response.
After completing Saturday's air quality test, we continued additional remediation, including cleaning and removal of porous materials that could carry mold, extensive air scrubbing, and continuing the use of seven industrial dehumidifiers.
We will conduct another air quality test this morning. If this test shows that the air quality is safe for re-entry in the building, we plan to give teachers access to the building beginning Sunday evening and all day Monday, with a goal of opening the school to students on Tuesday. Our goal is to get students into the building and with their classmates as soon as it is safely possible.
We will continue to provide updates as we receive test results, and our number one priority is ensuring the building is safe before allowing any student or staff to re-enter the building. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Jason
EDIT: Saturday's testing results are now attached. Apologies!
