PM Update

Posted Date: 08/27/26 (04:36 PM)

Good evening, Obama Community,

I heard lots of great reports from Pine Camp today! Again, many thanks to Parks and Rec, the Obama team, and our Academic and Wellness officers for making this possible. Please see below for this evening’s updates.

Facility Updates:

  • In case you missed it: Official results from yesterday's testing in Room 104 and the auditorium arrived today, and we are excited to share that spore counts in both areas are at or below outside natural levels. As a result, both rooms are cleared for re-occupancy. A copy of the report is attached to this update.

  • Air quality testing for the entire top floor is being completed this evening, and results will be shared as soon as we receive them.

  • Deep cleaning on the middle floor was completed today, with testing scheduled for tomorrow (August 28). Cleaning of the cafeteria and remaining basement areas will continue through Friday (August 29) and Saturday (August 30).

  • Continuous moisture monitoring successfully identified targeted areas for repair. Our facilities team is actively addressing potential pipe leaks, roof points, window and wall sealing, and localized moisture in wall and floor sections.

  • Continuous AC cooling, dehumidifiers, negative ion scrubbers, and antibacterial fogging remain active. Relative humidity is holding steady between 45%–58%. Extra dehumidifiers have been deployed to one specific area that registered slightly above 60%.

Transportation Updates:

  • For students attending Pine Camp Arts & Community Center:

    • Our students who ride buses can continue to use their existing Obama bus stops (view bus routes here).

    • Our walkers who need a ride to Pine Camp can catch the bus at Obama Elementary School at 7:30 am.

    • Buses depart Pine Camp at 2:40 pm, dropping off walkers at Obama Elementary at 2:45 pm (other students return via standard route times).

    • Families keeping students at Pine Camp until 5:00 PM must arrange their own pickup.

Meal Updates:

  • Pine Camp Meals: Breakfast and lunch will be provided daily for students attending Pine Camp, courtesy of the Richmond Education Foundation.

  • Grab & Go Meals: Grab & Go meals will be available each day from 8:00 – 10:00 am in front of Obama Elementary School for any BOES family. Please be prepared to share your student's name for enrollment verification.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we make steady progress toward fully reopening our building.

With great appreciation,

Jason
