Good evening, Obama Community,

We are thrilled to share that 100% of Barack Obama Elementary School is now fully cleared for reoccupancy! Please see below for additional crucial details about tomorrow's return to regular school operations.

Facility Updates:

  • Official test results arrived confirming that Room 304 and the main office suite have passed air quality testing and are fully cleared for reoccupancy (final test results attached).

  • Indoor conditions remain stable and comfortable, with relative humidity holding at a low level between 44%–56% and temperatures ranging from 70°F–76°F throughout the building.

  • Water supply lines to individual, in-classroom single bathrooms remain turned off to prevent potential pipe leaks. The entrances to these restrooms are closed to prevent accidental use.

Transportation Updates:

  • Standard, regular school bus routes and schedules will resume tomorrow, Thursday, September 3, for the official return to Obama Elementary.

  • Tomorrow only: Please refrain from parking at the front of the school during morning arrival to make room for bus drop-off.

Barack Obama Q&A:

  • What is the long-term monitoring plan for moisture and mold prevention?

    • Dehumidifiers will remain in place across the building for the foreseeable future to keep indoor moisture levels low.

    • Facilities staff will continue conducting daily manual temperature and humidity checks. We are currently obtaining quotes to upgrade our building sensors so they continuously track temperature and relative humidity.

    • We are instituting a regular monthly schedule of air quality testing to ensure long-term air safety.

  • What is the plan for repairing the single-room bathrooms, and how will students be supported?

    • In-classroom single bathrooms will not be operational tomorrow. Facilities will rebuild these restrooms one room at a time over the course of the school year to ensure all plumbing is completely secure against leaks.

    • Central hallway restrooms will be fully open and operational. School teams are establishing support and monitoring routines to assist students, especially our youngest kindergarteners, in safely and smoothly transitioning to and using the hallway facilities.
